Welcome to Get Us Outside! Thanks for stopping by. 

I’m Nicola, mummy to two energetic boys aged five and two. I love exploring new places, returning to much loved places and generally being outside with them – partly because it’s easier than being inside! In July 2022 we made the move out to the west coast of Scotland to a lovely seaside town called Troon. I love being by the coast, being able to see, hear and smell the sea whenever we want to.

I started this blog a few years back when I travelled a lot with my eldest boy, mainly to document our adventures but also to help others wanting to travel with little ones. I’m not talking packing up our lives and travelling round the world for months on end but just getting out and about with the little one on trains and planes. Due to circumstances at the time I travelled a lot between Glasgow and London from when my eldest was three months old and I was terrified. It’s amazing what you can do with a little shove though and now I’m so glad we had those experiences. Now I want to write for fun about our adventures as a family of four. My day job is writing and I’ve forgotten what it’s like to just write for fun, hence the massive gaps in time between posts. So here I am, looking for the fun and joy in getting outside and writing again.
